200,000 Americans tell the media not to parrot FOX “News”

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

On March 27, 2008, volunteers from MoveOn.org, supporters of Brave New Films, and dozens of concerned citizens delivered copies of a 200,000-signature petition to the offices of NBC (shown here) and CNN in New York and CBS and ABC in Washington D.C. The petition read:

“FOX is a Republican mouthpiece, not a legitimate news organization. Real news organizations must reject FOX’s smears of Barack Obama, not parrot them and distract Americans from the pressing issues of the day.”

This event comes on the heels of FOX Attacks! Obama Part 2: Spreading the Virus (http://foxattacks.com/virus), a BNF video that has already received over 550,000 views in less than two weeks. The video highlights how FOX’s lies and biased “journalism” have infected the traditional media. At one point during a Democratic debate hosted by MSNBC, NBC’s Tim Russert literally repeats FOX’s Sean Hannity verbatim in an effort to connect Barack Obama to Louis Farrakhan.

FOX is not a news organization — it is a Republican propaganda outlet whose goal is to elevate Republicans while smearing Democrats. The Iraq war and the outcomes of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections were direct results of traditional news organization following FOX’s lead. As we face such an important presidential election, we cannot allow the traditional media to make the same mistake again.

Disney Pixar Under Pressure To Sell More Merchandise

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Traders in Wall Street have shown their concern for the future of Disney Pixar’s position in the share market. Many quality films have come out of this company over the last couple of decades but there are lots of people that think they have lost their commercial edge these days.

The news follows the release of their last two films, WALL-E and Ratatouille, which have been the studio’s two worst performing productions. Although all of their films are making profit, they are just not making as much as their top competitors such as Dreamworks. The latest release ‘UP’ has just hit the screens and contains many of the same floors as highlighted in previous films. The overriding opinion is that there is a serious lack of marketable characters and they are not as appealing or purchasable as their previous efforts (think Mickey Mouse) or indeed those of their completion. Dreamworks have been producing some merchandising god-sends lately include the Shrek and Wallace and Grommit films and their latest, Monsters VS Aliens. These films all have talking animals or creatures that are endearing and have clear heroes and villains that lead to great merchandise sales. Toys, books,  DVD’s, clothes even more obscure products like dolls houses, all go towards making up the films overall profits. The ability to market these products is what pixar have been lacking recently as a result of their story structures and character choices.

Some people have stood up for Pixar and said that it simply staying true to its craft and not selling out by producing a film just to sell goods off the back of it. They would rather be able to promote the selling of educational toys rather than cheap tacky stuff. However, they cannot ignore the pressure that is currently being put on them by investment companies and shareholders to constantly increase revenue.Richard Greenfield from Pali Research has reduced the share price of Disney to sell last month, citing predicted poor commercial strength a a reason why.
