Music Production studio?

I need advice on setting up a home studio so that I can start Producing Music, but don’t what I need to get started becuase I’m a newbie to this whole thing so what would are the tools I need in order to get started? The Music I’m trying to Produce is HipHop. Also what exactly is the MPC for, is it like a drum machine of some sort? I’m new to this so I’m trying to get some knowledge in order for me to get started.

The MPC is from the Akai series of Midi sequencers. It has little rubber square pads you tap on to enter drum notes (typically) A lot of hip-hop guys still use the MPC stuff because it’s easy to use, although quite limited. That being said, lots of great records have been, and are still being made using it. It’s good for trigggering samples, and drum sounds, but if you are entering keyboard parts etc, you’ll also need a midi keyboard and something to generate those sounds.

Depending on what kind of musician you are, that may be fine, but since you have a computer already, take a look at some entry level midi sequencing software like Reason, or Sonar Home Studio (or one of Cakewalk’s other programs.) You should get yourself a cheap USB midi keyboard so you can play the notes etc instead of entering them with a mouse or computer keyboard.
