Why do delivery boys get pissed off when i don’t tip?
I ordered a medium pizza for 12.50 including a delivery charge. I only have $20 for the whole weekend. I don’t feel like giving 3 dollars to a delivery guy. If you delivery boys cry about your job well ok get a damn job that pays you minimum wage. Or why don’t you get signs and horde around the pizza ceo’s demanding they give you more money for your service. I just think its ridiculous for someone to give me a pissed off look after they see the money they received. Also i know they don’t get payed well that is why if you hate your job you should get a new one maybe start up a organization to collect money for the pizza delivery men and women of America. Oh i forgot its a recession, its hard to find a job, well maybe you shouldn’t be expecting a tip then since most people are suffering from financial struggle.
OH damn everyone seems to be mad here, lol like i expected…. but i love how no one seems to mention the pizza company owners who pay THEIR delivery boys with 2.10 every hour. Thats ok though they can do that because they make such establishments. Let all the fault and blame be put on the Americans who tip these people for the wrong of the pizza owners put on them. boo hoo
It doesn’t matter WHY you didn’t tip, just that you didn’t. The tip is how they make their money since they aren’t being paid a full wage, and it is supposed to be a service fee. If you’d like to clarify it, you can call the company and ask if the delivery charge is going to the delivery person as a tip or not. If not, then you need to tip 15-20% of the original bill BEFORE the delivery fee and before taxes or discounts. So if the pizza is 10 dollars, then tip 1.50 - 2.00.
If you don’t want to tip, then don’t order from somewhere that delivers. It is just how it works, not fair, but that’s how it is.

This is the dumbest question I’ve ever read.
You are a stain on society.

My advice: Don’t order from this same pizza place any time soon. They will remember you. Your pizza will arrive late and cold, perhaps with who-knows-what contaminating it.
For an interesting look at tipping etc. from the viewpoint of servers and delivery people, see http://stainedapron.com

The very word TIP means "To insure promptness". This is an agreement we all made as a society. Waiters, waitresses, delivery people, barbers, hairstylists and a number of other service people are "ENTITLED" to a certain gratuity because they offer a service. It is money you give them to make sure they give you good services and it is NOT optional. Maybe you should have gotten off your lazy butt and driven over to the pizza place and gotten your own pizza, rather then dragging someone out of a warm building to hand it to you? That is always an option especially if you only have 20 dollars in your pocket. We go to restraints and utilize these people so we don’t have to get off our lazy butts and do stuff like that.
Think about this, though. Imagine your ill thought out scenarios were to come to pass. Maybe all those delivery people get a better job and stop delivering pizzas. Then who will bring the pizza to your lazy butt? What if they organized for better up front wages -guess where that money would come from? In the increased price of the pizza, and probably a gratuity added to your bill up front.
I am an excellent tipper. I always give 15% for adequate service and more for above on beyond and you know what discover? The more you tip, the better your service is. It is your obligation to give SOMETHING. Say if you’re broke don’t give three, give him a dollar and say "I’m kinda broke, I’ll catch you next time. I think it’s the very height of barbaric behavior to not pay someone for a service rendered. It’s even worse to come on a public forum and try tomake the injured party (the delivery guy) Look like a villian because he got pissed when you stiffed him. And no, I don’t work in a service position and I get no gratuities - I just pay them like an adult.

If you have 20 bucks for the whole weekend, then why on earth did you spend more than half of it on one pizza? You aren’t the sharpest tool in the shed, I see.

In ideal world people doing honest labor are earning a living wage, and all that is expected by a food service or delivery person is a "thank you" and perhaps a commendation to the supervisor. However we live in the real world, not an ideal world. In the United States it is generally understood that if one can’t afford the customary costs associated with dining out, then the alternative is to not dine out — stiffing the waiter is not an option. This also applies to delivery drivers. If you can’t spare a measly $1 for the delivery person, perhaps delivery is not an option for you?
I suspect that it is not his JOB that the delivery "boy" is feeling resentful about, but about YOU and your snotty selfish attitude. It’s not the fault of the delivery "boy" that you continue to use services you can no longer afford.

Many a person has put themselves through schooling on their wages and tips and try to do what they can to support their families, too. Don’t go out to eat if you can’t tip. Delivery fees are added, but the driver doesn’t get it all either. Their vehicles take added abuse from the mileage.
Remember…the more your hoard, the more that’s eventually taken away from YOU. Learn to be generous–or start doing for yourself.

Well, tips are basically their income and minimum jobs usually pay less. I always tip delivery guys. Sometimes, I won’t tip my waiter if it’s bad service or in the case of a buffet that was essentially self-service. However, I always tip pizza guys because they are performing a service. I think the "pizza delivery charge" is to make up for all the gas money lost to delivering pizza. If everyone thought like you did, you would have to go get your own pizza yourself. I mean, I know I might not be the best tipper. I usually do 10 percent. Some people will say it’s low, but I can’t afford to pay their salary or I’d go in the pizza business myself. Still, you should be tipping something and I generally think 10% is the minimum. If it’s a really nice place, you should tip more.

Or….you could just not order a pizza from someone that is expecting a tip because their employer is too damn cheap to pay minimum wage.
