USPS media delivery? How do they check?
Lets say i want to Ship a non media thing with USPS media.
How do they check my package if it actually media contents inside?
Well, first my rant. Don’t do it. It is a federal crime, under the USC to knowingly fail to pay the required rate of postage. WOuld you liekly be prosecuted for a one time offense? Not liekly. But, your package could end up at the other end with Postage Due being owed. Tends to tick people off when they have to pay out to get their package.
People that would consider this sort of theft really crank my giblets. The spoiled public already enjoys some of the lowest postage rates in the world as well as some of the highest levels of service as far as delivery times, and there are still those that want to pay less and are willing to break federal laws to save a buck.
Ok, now to your question. Media Mail is a subclass of Package Services. It is clearly spelled out in our Domestic Mail Manual that Package services Mail is subject to Postal Inspection, regardless of any sealing method used by the mailer. Your use of the rate for mailing provides your consent to the possible inspection.
SO how do we find out? We open your package and inspect the contents to ensure that everything is eligible for the rate claimed. And before you go thnking of another way around the regulations, it will not work to throw a book or some old CDs into the package. The ineligible matter disqualifies any eligible matter.
Not only will the addressee be hit with Postage Due, the inspection and mark up will also delay the transit of your package. Parcel Post is an alternative to Media Mail.
