Question about CitiGroup and their private jets…?
So, they’ve decided not to take delivery of their new jets - in an attempt to appease the public and the media. But they’ve already paid for it! They were ordered in 2005 - and put down at least half of the money.
My question - What is the point of literally throwing away money so you don’t appear to be wasting it?
jet / jets - the point is the same. "Only a deposit" is still around $25 million.
FYI - I’m not angry that CitiCorp has private jets, or that they ordered more. My concern is that the government is forcing a dog and pony show - like when the auto execs drove hybrids to Washington….
Ed J - learn to read. The number of jets is really not important for the question. Either answer the actual question or just go away.
The larger problem would be that the President called and requested that they not take delivery of the jet. That’s right, the government mandated what a private business should do. Get used to it, we will no longer be the USA if government keeps sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong.
We’ll at least be a Cosa Nostra…

"Jets"? I thought it was a single jet. They were disposing of two jets.

They only paid a deposit which may be refunded if someone else buys the jet.

It may anger you some more that the banks used the bailout money to buy other banks.

These seem like empty vessels to ’show’ action. I almost never find logic in government actions like this. You are right, the forcing of auto industry execs to drive hybrids to DC accomplished nothing but news coverage.
It is dangerous thing when government dictates business.
