when did the u.s.a. military start doing documentary films in full color?
that dose not tell me when they started. i know they did color back in ww2, just want to know when they started not why they started
Same reason now that we have color TV, improvement in technology.
WWII documentaries are done in black and white because most of the footage is black and white, while Vietnam, OIF, OEF are done in color because of color footage.

Up until the mid to late fifties, most documentaries were in black and white. It seemed so much more effective, because war has no color, even for veterans when they think back to those days, their recall is in black and white.
The most famous of all documentaries was "Victory at Sea" which was done in black and white. Most filming done on Vietnam was done in color, so I suppose this was the age of color.
It’s true that color filming was sometimes used during WW II. This was the exception rather than the rule.
