How long does Pre-Production and Post-Production of a film usually take?
Saturday, January 9th, 2010Like in a live-action film or a cel, computer, clay, or stop motion animated film. Just the simple duration of those stages. I would also like to know how long distribution and sales goes for.
For pre-production, if you start counting from the moment the writer starts the script to the 1st day of principal photography- probably the average for a feature film is 5-10 years, some longer, some less.
In post, its usually a month for editing, a month for sound, a month for cc and final mix, but of course if there are any visual effects that will add quite a bit of time.
A distribution deal is usually reached before the film starts shooting and is considered pre-production.
