the objective and so the target is different.
1) visual communication - the design talks about a point of view and so it is a style expression
2) advertising - the design talks about a brand/product
3) graphic - the design talks about itself and becomes a designers expression

the following tracks (all from frank cd) from winehouse’s frank and back to black four cd deluxe set have scratching sounds. I also noticed the same sounds on amazon’s sample version of frank deluxe and regular frank, explicit and clean versions.

I am thinking "Frank" was not produced correctly like Back to Black was. Initially I thought I bought a defective cd but it seems that maybe that is how the music was produced. Any opinions or confirmations?
Sometimes an analog to digital conversion can leave that "hiss"/ scratch noise. *if it was recorded on a tape reel, and then transfered to computer*
However, a modern production technique is to deliberately add those static clicks in to give it a low-fi vintage vinyl feeling instead of the squeaky clean digital. (Example, Eminem’s The Way I Am).

There’s a great book for you. Photoshop Color Correction. Get it at amazon. It will teach you all you need to know.
Its very difficult to get any kind of job in that industry without connections. If he is just starting out tell him to do as many internships as possible to learn skills and get connections. get a copy of the hollywood creative directory and mail or fax to companies he would like to intern for with a cover letter indicating his interest interning for them and a resume. Also look for events where you can talk to industry professionals. The pay is low at first most of the time and alot of work is freelance so he might have to be looking for a job alot. Some people do make it though and have a career but most people end up doing other things or going back to school for a different career.
