Bye Bye Sony UMD - New Sony PSP Will Not Support It

Friday, July 31st, 2009

The Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) game console used the Universal Media Disk (UMD) to deliver games and movies (for a short while) for use with the PSP. The new PSP said to be available in June 2009 will not have a slot for the PSP. In my opinion, this is a good thing since the UMD is not a good delivery mechanism.

80’s Commercials Vol. 80

Friday, July 31st, 2009

These commercials aired on local ABC affiliate KGO on November 11th, 1985. Thanks to my Uncle for recording these.

1. Bud Light
2. Nissan
3. DP Gympac (”MmmHmm”)
4. Promo for “Shadow Chasers”
5. Nissan Sentra (Not even my mom’s freaking huge 80’s glasses were as big as these monstrosities)
6. NFL Super Pro Club (With John Elway, Eric Dickerson and a kid who can apparently materialize out of thin air)
7. ABC Station ID
8. Gallo Wines
9. Nissan 300ZX
10. Honda Fourtrax 4X4 (What a twist!)
11. Canon Copier (Now I want a color photocopy of Jack Klugman!)
12. Nuprin
13. Promo for “Monday Night Football”

Where to buy blank DVD’s used by studio production companys??

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Im looking for blank DVD media that the studios use for my wedding photography business and cant seem to find them online for purchase. They are the ones with the silver recording side not the purple or gold. I know I can use the purple DVD-R’s but Im looking for a more authentic look rather than a cheesy DVDR. Thank for your help.
Im a small company starting up so I dont have the capability of stamping my own DVD’s.

Don’t recording companies stamp out their DVD’s rather than burning them?

What does Post Production mean? (movie term)?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Often when googling I find movies that have a tag next to it saying that it is in post production. What does this mean? does it mean that it has finished filming and they are editing or something? thanks

Post-production is, in fact, many different processes grouped under one name. These typically include:
Video editing suite

* Editing the picture / television program
* Editing the soundtrack.
* Writing and recording the soundtrack music.
* Adding visual special effects - mainly computer-generated imagery (CGI) and digital copy from which release prints will be made (although this may be made obsolete by digital-cinema technologies).
* Transfer of film to Video or Data with a telecine and Color grading.

Typically, the post-production phase of creating a film takes longer than the actual shooting of the film, and can take several months to complete.

How can I get involved in television/film production?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I’ve tried writing to the usual places, BBC etc.. about how they run work experience placements, but they are always either very vague or full up, or advice on most websites is abit crap. Just wondered if there was anyone on here with experience who may be able to help.
Anything would be great for the mean time.
Cheers

It’s terribly easy.
Here in the US of A, you either join a union (IATSE), the labor force that serves television and film or you apprentice at a station or apprentice for a film company and work your way up.

It’s a lot of fun and very rewarding. The pace of film making is pretty slow and television is very fast! Pick your poison!
