Quick Review About Braveheart

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Long before The Eagerness of the Christ, Mel Gibson directed another cinematic masterpiece, Braveheart. Filmed against the background of majestic mountains and rolling meadows, it tells the historically-based [ yet not wholly correct ] story of William Wallace, a common man’s soldier who led the Scottish folks in rebellion against King Edward I, sometimes called Longshanks. Written by Randall Wallace, an Yank visitor fascinated with a Scottish statue of his namesake, the script picked up dust in Hollywood for more than a decade before Gibson made the brilliant call to put it on the big-screen. Like the Keenness , it’s a call he wouldn’t regret Set in the 11th Century, Braveheart catalogs the fight of Scottish serfs who work under the savage oppression of English occupation forces. Amidst these awful conditions, William Wallace [ Mel Gibson ] falls in love with Murron MacClannough [ Catherine McCormack ].

Urgent on not sharing his other half [ an announcement by the king gives local rulers first-night rights to new brides ] Wallace anonymously marries Murron. Nonetheless , an British knight attacks her, sparking a fight with Wallace. Fleeing the hamlet, Wallace believes Murron has escaped and will soon meet him at a secret rendezvous point. But Murron is caught and executed by the king’s emissaries. Annoyed by his other half’s murder, Wallace starts a local rebellion, massacring all of the king’s loyalists in his village. As his rebellion grows, a upset Longshanks [ Patrick McGoohan ] dispatches his mythical Northern armed forces to break it. But the brave Wallace delivers a stirring speech to wake his men, whilst employing a creative battleground trick to defeat the king’s cavalry. With the power and legend of Wallace growing day by day, Longshanks depends on his daughter-in-law, Princess Isabelle [ Sophie Marceau ] to broker a truce.

But Isabelle’s power is limited, and Wallace realizes his folks can only win liberty if backed by the Scottish nobles. Their allocated leader is Robert the Bruce [ Angus MacFadyen ] who oscillates between his own idealistic perspectives and his pa’s pessimistic pragmatism. Does the nobles join with Wallace? Does the Scots win their freedom? Only history tells us the answer With complicated costumes, clear battle scenes, and a noble hero as its focal point, Braveheart is more than your standard run-of-the-mill action film.

Part history, part Hollywood heroism its undying idealism hits a rope with each spectator. In reality, the flick itself led on to a resurgence in patriotic pride that fueled the successful Scottish independence movement of the 1990s. It’s a testament to the strength and character of the genuine life William Wallace. A thousand years later, his enduring inheritance continues to radically change the ECU landscape, and Mel Gibson captures the noble soldier’s keenness with an awesome Academy prize winning masterwork.

Disney Pixar Under Pressure To Sell More Merchandise

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Traders in Wall Street have shown their concern for the future of Disney Pixar’s position in the share market. Many quality films have come out of this company over the last couple of decades but there are lots of people that think they have lost their commercial edge these days.

The news follows the release of their last two films, WALL-E and Ratatouille, which have been the studio’s two worst performing productions. Although all of their films are making profit, they are just not making as much as their top competitors such as Dreamworks. The latest release ‘UP’ has just hit the screens and contains many of the same floors as highlighted in previous films. The overriding opinion is that there is a serious lack of marketable characters and they are not as appealing or purchasable as their previous efforts (think Mickey Mouse) or indeed those of their completion. Dreamworks have been producing some merchandising god-sends lately include the Shrek and Wallace and Grommit films and their latest, Monsters VS Aliens. These films all have talking animals or creatures that are endearing and have clear heroes and villains that lead to great merchandise sales. Toys, books,  DVD’s, clothes even more obscure products like dolls houses, all go towards making up the films overall profits. The ability to market these products is what pixar have been lacking recently as a result of their story structures and character choices.

Some people have stood up for Pixar and said that it simply staying true to its craft and not selling out by producing a film just to sell goods off the back of it. They would rather be able to promote the selling of educational toys rather than cheap tacky stuff. However, they cannot ignore the pressure that is currently being put on them by investment companies and shareholders to constantly increase revenue.Richard Greenfield from Pali Research has reduced the share price of Disney to sell last month, citing predicted poor commercial strength a a reason why.

Spongebob Squarepants Show

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

SpongeBob SquarePants show is one of the most popular animated TV series broadcast not only in the United States but around the world as well. The father of the characters is a former marine biologist, Stephen Hillenburg who created the show through the company he owned: United Plankton Pictures. The show can be watched on Nicktoons Network, and the awards have not been few for this production. The pilot episode of SpongeBob SquarePants show was launched on May 1, 1999, followed by other episodes that gained more popularity from 2000 onwards.

There is no continuity between the episodes in SpongeBob SquarePants show, which makes it perfect for anyone to watch it without missing previous events or contexts. Although many characters suffer apparently irreparable accidents, they always get back to normal. Eugene Krabs’ restaurant in Bikini bottom gets destroyed several times, and every time it seems like it’s the end. Lots of these apparently horrific events blamed on SpongeBob’s mishaps. The great part of this cartoon series is that adults and children can watch it alike: the episodes often contain subtleties that reflect the absurdity of life for instance, which will escape the understanding of young watchers.

One of the elements that distinguishes SpongeBob SquarePants show from lots of Nickelodeon productions is the contribution of lots of independent musicians to the soundtrack of the series. Flaming Lips, Wilco or Twisted Sister are just a few names here, but a presence like that of David Bowie will not pass unnoticed, and this was obvious in the Atlantis SquarePantis episode of 2007. This episode had the largest audience level in the entire history of the SpongeBob SquarePants show. Then, one further reflection of the series into the music world was at the initiative of Metallica to release t-shirts featuring the group members playing live with the characters of SpongeBob and Patrick.

The popularity of the show increased to such an extent that MTV started broadcasting it, this time addressing the teenage audience-group category. Some famous quotes from the series became part of slang, and this is the case with the famous line from Mid-Life Crustacean: It’s gonna rock! Rock radio stations took over the quote and soon lots of teenagers would use it. SpongeBob SquarePants show has definitely made history, and it is good to think it can give a great laugh out pretext!

The History Behind the Dr Who Scarf

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Finding a good scarf can be hard for the most fashion conscious of us, but to find a good Dr Who scarf is an altogether different challenge.

What consitutes a Dr Who Scarf?
There is only really one true Dr Who scarf, and that has got to be the fourth Doctors scarf.  This was a long knitted, bohemian style scarf which flapped around and made the Doctor easily distinguishable.

Is There One Definitive Version Of The Fourth Doctors Scarf?
The history of the fourth doctors scarf is not quite as simple as one would guess.  The scarf started off at thirteen and a half feel long when it was introduced during season twelve.  This was however a little too unwieldy, and inbetween filming the Sontaran Experience and the Ark in Space a section of blue grey was removed.  During the Ark in Space the scarf gets blasted by a security system which leaves a small hole in the purple beige end of the scarf. The scarf then stayed unchanged for the remainder of the season.

The scarf was trimmed again at the beginning of season thirteen to a mere twelve foot.  The Dr Who scarf stayed in this format for the rest of season thirteen.

Season fourteen saw a confusing time for the Dr Who scarf, there were actually two used during filming, one was ten and a half feet long, while the other was only ten feet long.  In most of the episodes of this season the shorter scarf is used for indoor filming, while the longer one is used on outdoor shoots. There is one anomaly, the scarves are switched around in the Hand of Fear the scarves.

There is one longer version of the Dr Who scarf, a whooping seventeen foot scarf.  This is used in three episodes; Image of the Fendahl, Underworld and Invasion of Time.Strangely enough, this Dr Who scarf had the shortest life span of any of the multicoloured scarves.

The BBC did release the design for the Dr Who scarf, however, the version of the scarf they produced was actually the third and not the original version.

In the final two seasons of the multicolored Dr Who scarf, it was quite severely adapted.  This scarf was a combination of two previously used scarves. This was finally scrapped in the fourth Doctors last season, season eighteen, and replaced with a burgundy striped scarf. This burgundy scarf started off at around twenty feet, but stretched to a memorable twenty four feet during the season.

So if you are going to find your perfect Dr Who scarf you do have a choice.  The most important thing about your Dr Who scarf is to wear it with flare and to enjoy it.
